J.P. Mattingly and Dennis Hill formed
Wapituli in 1999. Dennis and JP’s
smooth
voices & heartthrob styles hark back to the swingin' greats of earlier
decades. Their versatile lead
and back-up vocals combine to form a unique
style with a natural
flair. Using the latest midi &
digital technology they create and produce the distinctive musical
arrangements that accompany their music.
A talented keyboardist, J.P. foregoes the keys on stage, adding a
conga beat to the duo’s musical mix, while Dennis adds acoustic guitar.

Additional Biographical Information About the
Vocal Duo ... Wapituli

J.P.
Mattingly
has been writing, producing, and performing music since
high school. An accomplished keyboardist, he joined guitarist Nick
Melton and formed "Mattingly & Melton", a duo that went on to
represent Southeast Indiana in the "True-Value Country Showdown". Soon
after, J.P. stopped performing 'live' to concentrate on studio work with Dennis
Hill. They co-produced demos and album projects for several local
artists as well as their own 'studio group', "Ursa Minor". J.P.
returned to 'live' performing when, in the early 90’s, along with his
cousin Dawn Haggard and Dennis formed "Gypsy", an unique vocal
group that had the privilege of performing at the Indiana State Fair
during it's brief existence. In the interim, J.P. joined with his
father, Dr. John Mattingly to build, operate, and produce musical events
at "Indian Creek Theatre", a entertainment venue in Corydon that hosted
concerts by Phil Keagy, Dino, Little Jimmy Dickens, Jerry Reed, and
other well known regional and national artists. "Wapituli" was
formed in 1999 as a 4-piece group, evolving into the duo it is today.
J.P.'s son, Dustin, is also a musician and former member of the regionally
popular alternative rock group "Thank You Jade". J.P.
is also a talented video producer in addition to his audio recording studio skills.

Dennis
Hill was born and raised in Flint, Michigan.
While at Michigan Technological University, Dennis began a career in
radio broadcasting that eventually brought him to Corydon,
Indiana as owner/operator of WJDW-AM & FM. You may have also heard
Dennis "on-air" as a Louisville radio personality on 98.9 FM,
"The Hawk". He left the radio business late in '01 after a 2 year
stint as Operations Mgr. for the Kentucky News Network. His music performing career began
in 1974 Michigan with a 5-piece show band, "STEEL-Satin",
a group that became popular enough to eventually work 'full-time'
for about a year and a half 'on the
road' in Michigan, Kansas, South Dakota, Wyoming, Iowa, and 3 months in
Canada. Not long after moving to Corydon in 1979, Dennis formed the "MUSICYCLE Variety Entertainment Show.",
which featured music, choreography, costumes, and comedy. The
MUSICYCLE performed at several area festivals, Indiana State
Parks, conventions, and other events, often traveling as far as Hot
Springs, Arkansas, St. Louis, Missouri, Flint, Michigan, &
Cincinnati, Ohio. Dennis began working in his home recording studio
with J.P. Mattingly in 1985, producing a solo cassette album
("Secrets") and a couple of duo projects with J.P. as a 'studio'
group called "URSA MINOR". They began performing together
'live' as part of "GYPSY" (see J.P.'s bio above). Wapituli was
formed in 1999. Throughout the past 20 years, Dennis has also
performed as a solo entertainer (Click
here for info about Dennis as a solo) and recently has teamed up with
Lori Clark to sing at a few venues.
